What is an Offering? Offerings are made as a financial means to support the church. At Sabine Valley your donated offering will be used for church repairs, to fund ministry work, pay church expenses such as utility bills, expand our ministry and offer services to our members and the community. Donated offerings are not used to pay any member of our congregation, pastor included, because our people are commissioned by God to do the work they do.. Why present an Offering and how much? Many people use the Old Testament teaching of a 10% tithe as a rule of thumb for their offering. There is not a limit to an offering which differs from the tithe commanded of the Isrealites. Basically the amount offered is through God's grace. This grace gives us the power and ability to make an offering. Offering is important enough that Jesus talks about it in the book of Mark: "Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on." Mark 12:41-44 How do I donate an offering to Sabine Valley Baptist Church?
